According to the number of reactive groups contained in each molecule, the crystalline epoxy resin can be divided into single functional group active diluent and multi functional group active diluent. Monofunctional active diluents contain only one group per molecule that can participate in the curing reaction, such as methacrylic acid-beta-hydroxyethyl ester (HEMA). Multifunctional active diluents are active diluents containing two or more active groups in each molecule, such as 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA). The monomers containing more functional groups can not only increase the reactivity, but also give the cured membrane cross-linking structure. This is because only linear polymers can be obtained by polymerization of monofunctional monomers, while high crosslinking degree networks can be obtained by multifunctional monomers.
According to the curing mechanism, active diluents can be classified into two categories: free radical and cationic type. (methyl) acrylates are typical free radical active diluents. The curing reaction is carried out by free radical photopolymerization. Epoxide belongs to cationic reactive diluent, and its curing reaction mechanism is cationic polymerization. Vinyl ethers can participate in both free radical polymerization and cationic polymerization, so they can be used as active diluents for two kinds of light curing systems.
